Sachin Tendulkar reacts to Ganguly's clarification on India vs Pakistan World Cup match

  • Sachin Tendulkar said he never felt the need for Sourav Ganguly to justify his comment
  • Sourav Ganguly said his statement was pitted against Sachin Tendulkar's comment on India-Pakistan World Cup tie
  • While Ganguly called for boycott of cricketing ties with Pakistan, Tendulkar said India shouldn't concede 2 points to Pakistan
Batting great Sachin Tendulkar has told Sourav Ganguly there was no need for him to come up with clarification after media reports tried to pitch Ganguly's comments on India-Pakistan World Cup tie against the ones made by him.
"Never felt the need for you to justify. Strongly believe that all of us want what’s best for our nation," Tendulkar wrote on Twitter.
Tendulkar's reaction comes after Ganguly hit out at media reports over the reportage of his comments on the boycott of the World Cup tie against Pakistan in the aftermath of the terror attack in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir wherein 40 soldiers lost their lives.
Notably, quite a few from the Indian cricket fraternity have been urging India to boycott the World Cup tie against Pakistan, scheduled for June 16 in Manchester. Sourav Ganguly had backed a complete boycott of cricketing ties with Pakistan even as emotions are running high after the dastardly attack.
"He [Sachin Tendulkar] wants two points against Pakistan, I want the World Cup. Whichever way you look at it," Ganguly had said.
Responding to media reports, Ganguly had clarified: "A lot of people in the media is trying to put my statement against sachin s when I said I want the World Cup My response has got nothing to do with his statement, nor is my statement against his .. he is, has been and will be one of my best friends for last 25 years (sic)."
Tendulkar had said he would personally hate to see India gifting two points to Pakistan by not playing against their arch-rivals at the World Cup. Notably, India have not lost a World Cup tie to Pakistan.
"India has always come up trumps against Pakistan in the World Cup. Time to beat them once again. Would personally hate to give them two points and help them in the tournament," said Tendulkar.
"Having said that, for me India always comes first, so whatever my country decides, I will back that decision with all my heart."
